Double Entry Journal #4
Quote
- "The Wikipedians sought to make the production of knowledge more transparent to everyday people."
-
Response
- I feel this means that Wikipedia is trying to get people to use it for finding knowledge on any subject at any given time. Wikipedia is allowing students to access information to use as background information to start a research paper on a topic. This allows to find out many types of information such as if you want to look up a quick things on a topic to talk about to your friends and have that information at just a click away. Teachers should allow students to use Wikipedia because it is a reliable source or they can even use it as a starting ground of information when starting a paper. Wikipedia is a great site to find information and I would recommend it to anyone.
Video
- this is a video about how amazing Wikipedia is but its a little false because it says anyone can edit information and its always true. This is from the show The Office.

Wikipedia
a. What is Wikipedia? Wikipedia is a multilingual, Web-based
encyclopedia project, operated by the Wikimedia Foundation, a nonprofit
organization
b. How would you answer the question posed in this piece
“How reliable can a source be when anyone can edit it?”?By having many people
watching what appears there, errors and vandalism will be weeded out, sooner
rather than later.
c. Who do the creators of Wikipedia place their trust in
when it comes to weeding out misinformation? The users because there are so
many, the users will find out what should and shouldn't be there.
d. Why did founder Larry Sanger leave Wikipedia? Because he
believed that it should give more authority to the experts.
e. What would abuse or vandalism look like on a Wikipedia
page? Not sure because it is discarded very quickly from the site if it does
appear.
f. What do the statistics quoted in the third paragraph of
this piece reveal? the encyclopedia is among the top 10 most-visited websites
in the world
g. Why do you think Wikipedia is so successful? Because it
allows the users to run it and is most likely a reliable source to find
information.
h. Why might Wikipedia’s creators not want to accept
advertising? Then they would be making profits from the site and they are a nonprofit
company.
i. How does Wikiscanner help increase the reliability of
Wikipedia entries? The tool, Wikiscanner, quickly exposed examples of
self-interested editing by prominent businesses and governments around the
world. Wikipedia's leaders hailed the device as another check on abuse at the
site.

Picasso Head
My learning style was auditory. Examples of technology that can be used as auditory is that when children are learning to read they can play out words on the computer so they know how to pronounce the word and help them learn to read better. Another example is having the students say out loud what a word is such as if they are learning the state capitals. It will help them remember a lot easier if they say it out loud and also hear it.

Quote
-"Technology can help many students improve their learning capabilities."
Response
-What I got from this quote is that technology continues to help kids learn and make it fun for them. Technology allows students to enjoy learning which would enhance their learning. Students would rather watch a video on a historic event or even look it up on the internet, rather than just sitting there reading it out of a textbook. Eventually all students will be able to use technology more in the classroom such as Ipads will take over textbooks for reading and they will even be able to do their assignments on the Ipads or watch videos about the subject they are learning. It will be like a one stop educational tool.
Video
-This is a video about technology being brought into the schools. This class is testifying in Columbus that they need more technology in the schools.

-"Technology enhances our ability to manipulate our communication with others."
Response
- This to me tells me how easy it is to access someone that is thousands of miles away. I can talk face to face with my uncle who lives in Texas by using Skype. Texting has almost made phone calls extinct. Communication is one of our most advanced tools today, not only can you play with your friend on xbox live all the way from California, you can also talk to your friend as you are playing together. That type of communication just seems astonishing to me and I wonder how it all is possible. The future might possibly hold new types of communication such as possibly hologram yourself to be right next to someone. Communication is an astonishing field.
Video
- This video is in German I believe it is about putting chips in you to communicate like using a phone. It is a commercial and is suppose to be funny.
